Five Years On

16th November to 7th January
Five Years On celebrates the first five years since the reopening of the Leach Pottery in 2008 with an exhibition of pots by the first seven potters apprenticed in the new studio.
In the summer of 2008, Jacob Bodilly and Michel Francois became the first ‘start up potters’ as they were then known, under the direction of former Lead Potter, Jack Doherty. Jacob and Michel helped in the production and launch of the first soda-fired tableware range, designed by Doherty and made and sold on site. Alongside the tableware Bodilly and Francois were encouraged to develop their own work and style, moving on after eighteen months to set up independent workshops nearby in St Just and Breage respectively.
Since those first days, the Leach Pottery studio has welcomed apprentices, students and volunteers from around the world. In total over thirty trainee potters have worked in the studio since it opened in 2008. Some stay for only a few weeks or months; for a few their stay has extended over a year or even two. This exhibition celebrates the work, development and independent careers of those seven potters who stayed the longest and looks at where they are, Five Years On.
